| Aggression in Cats Every once in a while a cat for some reason or another will be aggressive, now it al depends on the reason why the cat is aggressive is what makes a difference. Cats can be aggressive if they are backed into a corner or they feel threatened that is a natural cat instinct. They can act that way with another animal or a human if they feel cornered. They may act aggressively when they are sick, cats are very independent animals and when they feel sick or they are hurt they act out. It doesn’t mean they have a behavior problem that requires drastic measures but as they feel better the aggression will dissipate. Stress is another factor in why a cat may become aggressive. When a cat in under stress from a change in their environment or in the family dynamic they tend to get a bit aggressive. You may have heard this saying hundreds of times but cats do not like change. Cats hate moving from place to place they don’t adapt quickly to new surroundings so if you feel your cat is more aggressive than normal then try to figure out if anything has changed around them. Aggression in older cats is common as well, for many of the same reasons why a younger at would become aggressive as we have mentioned. Other factors in an older cat that would cause aggression would be desensitization and that is when an older cat becomes immune almost to what is familiar to them, it is all about aging. Cats like humans feel older and they tend to lose some of their demeanor. It is juts a fact of life. There may be an underlying condition that would cause your cat to become aggressive. For your peace of mind, make an appointment with the vet if you feel your cat is not acting the way she usually does. |

There are ways to prevent this behavior; you can have your cats neutered. It is recommended that this procedure be done when your cast is 6 month old. Experts say that 90% or cats will never spray if they are neutered young. Another reason a cat will spray is if he sees another cat whether in your home or looking through the window in your home. Cats like to sit in windows and you don’t want to cut them off from sunlight but if your cat likes to look out the window then pull up any drapes, move your furniture way from the window or cover the bottom portion of the window. Here are some methods you can do to stop or reduce your cat spraying. If you have more than one cat to try to play with all of your cats together. Cats that get along will most likely not spray. Don’t disrupt the life of your cat to often. Cats hate changes and change to their routine can bring about the spraying. There are cat repellants on the market that you use them to prevent spraying. The scent will keep the cat away; it is perfectly safe for humans so you don’t have to worry. Make sure you scrub the areas where the cats sprayed very good. You don’t want the scent of cat urine in your home. |
