Everyone loves to watch movies but, whether you enjoy actions,
comedies, horror or dramas, one thing that most people wish they could
avoid are high prices. With cinema prices always on the rise, more and
more people have turned to DVD rentals. Even then, prices can still
climb if you’re the type of person who keeps those DVDs for more than
one day or if you have children who want to watch the movies over and
over.
Subscribing to an online club provides the user with the ability to
download unlimited movies, music, games and other software, without
having to worry about the hassles of DVD rentals or purchasing. It’s
simple - You simply find a movie that you like, click on it, and just
start downloading. There are no hassles and no worries… or, at least,
that is what these companies would have you think. Is it really so easy
and worry-free? Join us as we take a look at
netmoviedownloads, and try to decide whether these programs are all
the rage… or more trouble than they’re worth.
Visiting the website, located at
netmovie downloads, I am immediately intrigued by the brightness and
flash of moving pictures against a gray and orange backdrop. It
immediately catches the attention and draws one in, advertising DVD
quality movies, unlimited media downloads, and that you can burn to CD
or DVD and play in any CD player. Right off the bat, that sounds like a
great deal - not only can you watch all of your favorite movies and new
releases but, even better, you can burn them onto CD and build your own
library. Anyone who loves movies is bound to love this, right? Patience…
things are not always as they seem.
A disappointing aspect of this website is that they obviously feel that
their potential customers are lacking in the brain cell department.
Harsh words, I realize, but in the case of
netmoviedownloads, all roads lead to the signup page. It doesn’t
matter if you click on one of the three bottom links that offer you the
ability to start, download or burn, every one of them will lead you to
the signup page. Likewise with the sidebar, which offers forth the
following links: movies, tv shows, music videos, get access, support and
login. All of them lead on to the signup page and, as if that wasn’t
going to give you a clear clue as to where you were supposed to go next,
you have four links on the left that give you the chance to click on
DVD, tv shows, unreleased music videos or burn cds, all of which take
you to the same spot. You guessed it. The signup page.
The one valid aspect of this opening page and the only piece of relevant
information? A small warning at the bottom of the main page, which warns
users to “share responsibly” and informs potential users that “the
purchase of a membership is not a license to upload or download
copyrighted material. We urge you to respect copyright and share
responsibly.” In other words, sharing all those new releases and big
name movies that you were imagining people to be doing? It’s a violation
of copyright and illegal in most cases.
(there is also link to a legal page at the bottom)
Moving on to the signup page, one is greeted by a spooky disembodied
female head, which provides a good 30 seconds of entertainment as you
discover that she looks where ever you move your cursor. It’s spooky,
but the company apparently wants to let you know how hi-tech and serious
they are. After all, they’ve bought a disembodied female head, as
opposed to telling you information like how long they’ve been in
business or how many users they have. Then again, it’s an attractive
head - maybe people really do fall for that.
There is a sense of security granted in that, after making a username
and offering a valid email to this company, you can check on boxes that
say you prefer not to receive additional information (read as SPAM) from
this site or its partners, and a second one that says you agree not to
use net
movie downloads to infringe Copyright. Now that would really be
unfortunate, wouldn’t it? To unwittingly download some old movie, not
realizing that it had copyright laws stamped on it… and then to get your
account deleted. Definitely be sure to read all the fine print, just to
make sure this isn’t the case.
Entering your username and email address, you are taken on to a second
step, where you pay for your choice of subscription plans… and here’s
where the eyebrows are sure to start climbing up into your hairline. The
potential user is granted the option of getting an unlimited access
membership for $34.95, 2 year access for $32.88 or one year for $29.98.
Conveniently pre-checked for you, is the little box that says you also
want to burn your downloads Unlimited MP3 Music Downloads for only
$14.95! fee. What? Didn’t notice the fine print that said you’d have to
pay extra for that ability? Don’t feel bad… It must have been written in
invisible ink.
